Rise and Walk
I injured my right knee -- yes, my good one -- Tuesday in a pick-up basketball game in Chicago. So I've been hobbling around for the past few days, sometimes on crutches. I was crutching it back to the office from three blocks away when I had this thought:
"What was it like to the lame and crippled when Jesus said, 'Rise and walk.'"
Did they instantaneously do it -- as it seems in the records -- or did they have to struggle to get to their feet? When they took their first step, did they wonder if their legs would buckle and cause them to fall? Or were they overcome with confident faith so that they just took off down the street like it was "go time."
I tried to stand up straighter and walk without my crutches on the way back to the office that day. I tried to believe that I'd have the faith to really believe my leg was well. When I couldn't bring myself to do it -- with what is really a relatively minor injury compared to the truly handicapped -- I was amazed at both their faith and our Lord's power.
I doubt the moment truly translates into this post, but I thought it was cool enough to post anyway.
