What If

What if the new heaven and new earth
Are already works in progress?
He said they were, they are, and they would be

What if we witness it now
By astronomy peering into the space-time continuum?
He could not have explained it quite so then.

For every star they ever saw
Was -- like mine -- from our own galaxy,
Which now through instruments we see beyond

What if death, our cessation of breath
Is simply a transporter to usher us
Into the next heavenly resort

You know, the one he said he'd prepare

And if this one here is so very beautiful
What makes me think the next one will be less so?
