Apologia
Without love, the whole universe would be
As Cold and heartless as a mortal enemy.
All the natural areas of exceptional beauty
Combined, would not inspire awe in me.
Imagine
No mother or father, nurse or doctor
To nurture the flailing, muscleless wonderer
Or no friends or family, hospice or minister
To caress the elderly, failing with cancer
A strong courtroom defense of faith rests
In the observation to which love attests
That learning to love is the sine qua non
Purpose of our existence in this home
Love, thus, I see, is the promise,
The unequivocal guarantee,
That we are made for more than this.
I am convinced of our immortality.
If it were not so, I’ve read,
He would have so said.
For there is no reason
For a loveless creation.
