Chesterton’s Parable

I choose the way of wonder

Not to know it all

A parliament to ponder

Not to rule it all

My temple is the universe

And I, a molecule

I choose the way of wonder

Of all things, vast and small

I choose this single moment

Not the one ahead

The fragrance of forever

Resides inside my head

(Yet) perspective is deceptive

I think I know what’s best

But I choose this single moment

And not the fear I dread

The girl inside the parable

Wanted to be large

And stood atop the pedestal

Until she saw it all

The emptiness of knowledge

The loneliness of power

The girl inside the parable

Collapsed and cried aloud

I choose the way of wonder

I choose the way of awe

I choose the mind of mother’s

Sacrament for others

I choose to reconsider

The charlatan of size

I choose the way of wonder

I choose now to be small
