Faith

I just learned to appreciate the "clippings" feature on my Kindle, excerpts that I'd clipped from books before but had, of course, forgotten how good the excerpts were.

Tonight, I'm on the later train from NY. I actually remembered to charge my Kindle, and I clicked on "My Clippings" just to see what was there. I found the South of Broad excerpt in my earlier post. And then I ran across the excerpt that I'll record below in this blog post.

I'm posting the excerpt below, not because I have struggled with faith much -- I haven't, but I understand why others do, but because I think this quote might one day help one of my own kids. Here's the quote:

"What people don't realize is how much religion costs. [Some] think faith is a big electric blanket, when of course it is the cross. It is much harder to believe than not to believe. If you feel you can't believe, you must at least do this: Keep an open mind. Keep it open toward faith. Keep wanting it. Keep asking for it. And leave the rest to God."
