Signs Are Everywhere
This is a view from my office of the top of St Patrick's Cathedral. I really like the architecture of the church, particularly how the roof forms a highlighted cross. In a place like Manhattan where so many people work and live and stay in hotels well above street level, the visibility of the cross from this angle is a good reminder.
It was also interesting yesterday to see Trinity Church situated right across the street from the address One Wall Street.
When I read of the growing secularization of the UK (British, not a typo for US) society, I'm sad because the legacy that England gave the world in Lewis and Chesterton and others is so rich in practical theology.
When I see reminders of the cross all over NY, I'm reminded of how humanity's spirituality is inescapable, no matter how crowded or busy or crazy life and work become. As Lewis put it (modified by me): "none of us are mere mortals."
When I saw this, I thought first of how much I fail, falling short of the standard I seek to live; but in the very next instant I thought of how loved I am by the God who created me.
I don't know how this will land in a blog, but I just felt like sharing it. Love you all.
