Three Great Gifts

As winter weather has covered the DC and NY area freezing temperatures and a blanket of snow, I've worn my overcoat, gloves, and hat quite a bit. One day, walking alone from dinner back to the office on a cold night in Midtown Manhattan, I started thinking about glad I was that I had a hat: the snow was falling, the wind was blowing, the air was cold, and a hat really made a big difference!

Then I thought "y'know, I'm glad this hat fits in my overcoat pocket because otherwise I wouldn't have it with me."

Then I started laughing at myself for talking to myself so much. And then I remembered my mom because she bought me the hat for Christmas about a decade ago. A Kangol driving hat. She told me at the time that she bought it because she didn't know what to buy me, but figured I didn't have one of these and it fit her view of me driving the convertible with the top down. It was a driving hat, after all.

So as I was walking, I started thinking about gifts and into my mind popped simply three great gifts that my mom had given me:

1. The Kangol driving hat -- I'll probably always have a Kangol hat around now.
2. Quilts -- in winter time, there's nothing better for basement warmth than the quilts she made us all 2 Christmases ago.
3. Faith -- and all that comes with it: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

It was a good walk back to the office.
