The Effective Speaker -- Part 2

So after I posted the 10 Principles earlier this week, I was flying to Budapest, reading the Financial Times, and ran across an article entitled "Lessons on how to talk like TED."  The article lists 9 aspects of effective communication, most of which are often demonstrated by speakers giving TED Talks.  Here are the 9 aspects (and I smiled when I saw the dramatic overlap with the 10 Principles I posted earlier this week):

1.  Be passionate about your topic.

2.  Engage the audience by telling stories.

3.  Treat your speech like a conversation.

4.  Tell the audience something it doesn't know.

5.  Include a few jaw-droppers.

6.  Use humor.

7.  Keep it brief.

8.  Engage all the senses by painting word-pictures.

9.  Be authentic.

Good stuff.
