What It's Like

So

This

Is

What It's Like

To feel love
To experience care
To be known

It

Is

Like This

Like rain on a parched desert
Like sun at the end of a long winter
Like snow falling softly on my face
Like wind giving lift to an eagle's wings
Like death giving way to life

Like seeing your mother's margin notes
in a coveted book

Like scattered bones reuniting
Like joy springing from a deep fountain
Like rising and walking after paralysis
Like resurrection from hibernation
Like breathing oxygen for the first time ever

Like watching your father drive a golf ball
or fall asleep in the eighth row in church

Like falling into a soft pillow
Like the cooling water on your feet in a mountain stream
Like a child holding your parent's hand for safety
Like being blind and receiving sight
Like crossing the tape at the end of a marathon

Like flying, unaided, carried by the winds
Like thinking and transporting instantaneously
To another place in time
Like standing on Table Mountain and taking off your shoes
Because the ground is holy

This

Is

What It's Like

To feel love
To experience care
To be known

and

For This

I am so thankful
