From Him to Me & Onto Them

When I receive the bread and cup
This morning on my knees
The Savior Christ is present here
Distributing his grace

The hymn I sing just after this
Will send me out to live
The way that he has ordered
The path of servanthood

This is why I must return
As often as I will
The Lord with towel in his hand
Washes my feet again

We call this meal the final one
And yet it was the first
Recipients betrayed him then
Just as I do afterwards

So when I step and fall again
Creating knots in time
Am I able to trust his plan
To make all new, amen.

This life -- it is a tapestry
A mess viewed from behind
But from the front and when complete
A masterpiece design

I can screw this up some
Or even quite a lot
The promise of the Eucharist
Is how mercy seals my heart

So when I serve out the bread and cup
To others on their knees
The Savior Christ is then through me
Dispensing love and grace
