Desert Reflections

From the sand beneath this Taj treehouse
Amongst all the other specimen structures
Rises the magnificent Burj Khalifa
An architect's dream, a contractor's prize and
Strikes an impressive pose
In what once was merely desert
Now grows an exquisite rose

Until the thought occurred
That those who live or work within
Cannot see it.

In the midst of life, pain and suffering
When I most feel myself all alone
It's so hard to envision the kingdom of heaven
Despite its proximity within me
And when I question why we all
Must endure this mortal experience
I'm asking why I can't just live within it

Until the thought occurred
That I may not have ever seen or known it
Had I never lived outside it.
