Carefree
This morning I watched a child run with reckless abandon --
Arms spread wide -- across a grassy field strewn with dandelions
Like a butterfly
haltingly
flying
boomerang
From here to there
and then back again
Until it landed with a whisper, so quietly on a single tree limb
Contented with where it had been and where it might go again
Carefree
No fear
No worry about the morrow
and what it might give
From here to there
and then back again
The trip of my lifetime is the stumble through adulthood
From freedom to worry and then back again
Carefree
No fear
No long harbor for sorrow
On this short journey
From here to there
and then back again
Let the little children
and the butterflies
and you
(just as you are, too)
Come unto me
For such is the kingdom of God.
