Bored, sitting in this very pew,

Some mischievous child,

Hopefully not mine ;),

Hid a little secret smile

And with the registration pen

Inscribed graffiti on

The tip-top spine

of the Holy Bible

On which,

This glorious knucklehead

Wrote one word in all caps

D-O-N-U-T-S

When I returned to church

After two years of covid isolation

I wanted to be the one

Sitting in that pew and

Holding the one book so branded

By this point, I too

Simply wanted to smile
